Embark on a magical journey into the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon, where the Cuyabeno and Zábalo Rivers reveal a world of vibrant wildlife, serene blackwater lagoons, and lush rainforest. Spot playful pink dolphins, exotic birds, and discover the inspiring Charapas Turtle Project. As you explore the Zábalo River, recognized as the world’s first Wilderness Quiet Park, you’ll be guided by the Cofan community, experiencing a rare sanctuary free from human noise while directly supporting local conservation and ancestral traditions.

Your Amazon adventure begins in Lago Agrio, where private transport takes you to Tierras Orientales on the Aguarico River. After a box lunch, board a motor canoe for a scenic ride through the rainforest, keeping an eye out for pink dolphins, monkeys, and exotic birds. Upon arrival at the lodge, enjoy dinner and then join a night walk to discover the fascinating world of nocturnal creatures such as frogs, spiders, and snakes.

Start early with a canoe trip to a parrot clay lick, where colorful parrots and parakeets gather in the morning light. After breakfast, take a guided hike through the forest to learn about medicinal plants and the rich biodiversity of the Amazon. Following lunch, head to a 28-meter-high birdwatching tower built around a giant ceibo tree, offering sweeping views of the rainforest canopy. Before returning, a short night walk reveals nocturnal insects, and the day ends with dinner at the lodge.

Enjoy breakfast before setting off by canoe along the Cuyabeno and Zábalo Rivers, exploring blackwater lagoons and watching for river dolphins. Arrive at the Zábalo community, where the Cofan people share their ancestral traditions, forest knowledge, and conservation efforts. Visit the Charapas Turtle Project, which has successfully protected and released thousands of river turtles. Depending on the season, you may even help release baby turtles into the river. After lunch on the river, return to the lodge for a welcome cocktail, dinner, and optional evening activities.

On your final morning, take a short forest or canoe excursion to experience the awakening sounds of the Amazon. After an early breakfast, begin your journey back, navigating the Cuyabeno and Aguarico Rivers before returning by land transport to Lago Agrio, arriving around midday.

Dopp Kit (biodegradable soap and shampoo). Swimwear and towel. hat or cap, sunglasses with strap. A small waterproof backpack. Insect repellent. Sunscreen. Zip-lock or plastic bags. Camera. binoculars (10x40 are better). Notebook. Swiss knife. Wet wipes. Books to read.
An original Document with photographic identification (ID or passport) is mandatory. To be able to make this trip you need to be in good physical condition, so you can enjoy hiking for 2 to 3 hours approximately in a tropical climate, however, you can skip the walks (and in general any activity) and participate only in canoe trips if you want a more relaxed stay.
